About the Area

Named for the American botanist Luther Burbank, the neighborhood is quiet, friendly and highly diverse. Take a morning or evening walk - my dog Shadow is always up for a walk and happy to accompany you - and you're likely to meet some of the friendly neighbors who make living in this neighborhood such a delight.

The cottage has a gourmet kitchen, but for dining out, every cuisine imaginable is available within a few miles. For simple but tasty fare, try the Mini Gourmet, a favorite neighborhood spot 10 minutes walking distance from the camper. Their Key Lime pie is sensational, their soups are homemade from family recipes, and Karrie is the world's best waitress. Crema is a local coffee shop that serves great sandwiches and yummy breakfasts; it's a popular study spot for Santa Clara University students and is open late.

Hiking trails, 24 Hour Fitness and the Central YMCA (with indoor AND outdoor 25m pools!) are all a short drive away.

House Rules

COMMUNICATION: Don't be afraid to ask if there is something you need. It is ok to tell me if you are having a problem. I won't be mad, and if you don't tell me, I can't fix it.

PLEASE SHOW RESPECT FOR MY HOME
-Try not to damage the things you use. If you are unsure about something, just ask.
-No smoking or illegal drugs. You must be over 21 to consume alcohol.
-No guns.
-No overnight guests

SHADOW THE DOG: Please be kind to Shadow and treat him gently.
-Don’t feed him people food – it’s bad for his teeth and will make him fat and unhealthy.
-Please don’t let him escape, so that he doesn't get hit by a car.

COURTESY TOWARDS OTHERS: Please be considerate of others by
-observing quiet hours (10pm to 8am)
-coordinating bathroom time (the bathroom is shared - please dry your hair and apply make-up in your room)
-dressing modestly in common areas

HOUSEKEEPING:
Please keep your room tidy
-take out trash, vacuum and dust once per week.
-please remove used sheets and remake bed with clean ones provided.
-Wet towels left on the floor will damage the wood. Hang them up in your room or in the bathroom
Food must be stored and consumed in kitchen or dining room only. Crumbs attract insects.
If you use the kitchen, please clean up (dishes in dishwasher, wipe up counter, clean up spills in microwave or on stovetop)

LAUNDRY: Please ask for directions before using washing machine. A rack is provided for drying personal items in your room.

HEATER: In winter, please exercise care when operating heater. To avoid risk of fire,
-keep heater away from papers and clothing.
-do NOT put anything on top of heater
-Use low power setting. Keep temperature at 72F or less.
-UNPLUG HEATER WHEN NOT IN USE.
AIR CONDITIONER: In summer, please limit use of air conditioner - use ceiling fan and open window to cool room whenever possible.

BASIC AMERICAN ETIQUETTE
-Always say "please,” “thank you,” “hello” and “goodbye." Americans do this even in the home among family members.
- It is considered rude to ignore a greeting. When someone says "hello" to you, reply. Further conversation is up to you.
-Say "excuse me" if you bump someone. If you need to walk in front of someone or reach around them, ask permission first then say "excuse me" as you do.
-Americans respect queues. Pushing or cutting the line is not tolerated.
-Hold doors open for elderly or handicapped people to walk through.
-Chew your food with your lips closed.
-When you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth with your arm to avoid spreading germs. If you have a runny nose, please use a tissue to wipe it. Using your fingers is unsanitary and most people will find it repulsive.
-Say "excuse me" if you burp, and "Bless you" when someone sneezes.
-Spitting is unsanitary and is considered extremely vulgar, even when done outside.

Smoking Rules

Your host is a non-smoker.

Smoking is not allowed.

You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile. Our hosts have been advised that if they wish to request advance payment they must make this explicit in their profile. We do not recommend the use of Money gram or Western Union.
