I got so lucky finding this family! Their two-story home is in the suburbs, about an hour outside of the city, and is in a very pretty part of Japan. They are so friendly and accommodating and made my stay feel very special. I enjoyed having breakfast and dinner with them (make sure to choose the meal option, the mother is a great cook). The parents are very helpful and made sure to really help me understand life in Japan and show me around different parts of the city and countryside. They were also patient to help me practice my language skills. They mostly speak Japanese but can translate to English if need be (so it is perfect for language immersion). Their two daughters were very friendly and sweet as well and we had a lot of fun talking and playing games.

This homestay was honestly the best decision I made in Japan! Absolutely the most beautiful, kind and wonderful family who did everything they could to give me the best experience. I genuinely felt like part of the family and admittedly cried when I said goodbye at the end of my time there. Maki makes the most amazing food- better than if not equal to some of the restaurants I went to in Japan so I really recommend eating with the family! I even got to learn how to make a few dishes which was lots of fun. Everyone in the family is really welcoming but also are respectful and give you space. Katsu speaks great English and Maki is fast becoming very good as well. Great location if you want to commute to Tokyo- 1 hour to the main stations. If you really want to immerse yourself and get involved this is the homestay for you! We went on excursions together- temples and shrines, the snow, cherry blossoms and explored Chiba which is really beautiful. I truly wish I could give this family more than 5 stars they are honestly amazing and I am so incredibly glad that I chose to stay with them.
