My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of wrapping up our 2 week SE Asia holiday by staying with Bun and his family for a few nights. Our time in Siem Reap was limited and we wanted to spend some good time with knowledgeable locals to explore Angkor Wat and area...and we got exactly that! From the first message sent to the sweet goodbye kisses we received from Bun's daughter at the airport when he dropped us off, Bun was incredibly helpful and accomodating. He arranged as much or as little as we needed by way of transports, meals, and guides for temple. I cannot speak highly enough of our guide, Than, and his thorough and thoughtful approach to teaching us about the history of Angkor Wat complex during our two day exploration. Our fantastic transport was provided by another friend Buffalo - his van and A/C were heaven on earth between temples and they were a well orchestrated team that navigated the throng of tourists such that we didn't feel like we were one of them. Our room was simple, clean, and comfortable and the homestead atmosphere was welcoming and laid back. Excellent food and lively dinners with other travellers and school kids/family made us feel like part of the fold...all in all a fantastic experience that went by too quickly. Bun and his clan welcomed us with open hearts and genuine interest and I look forward to spending more time with them again!!
We enjoyed Bunyong's home and family. His knowledge of the various temple history is extraordinary revealing insights that bring the temples alive. Wonderful efforts to support his local community through sharing guide work and encouraging others to become Homestay providers. Developing a school on site gives the local village children a chance to learn which otherwise might not be available. Highly recommend this stay if you want to be "off the main hotel road" and understand real Cambodian life seeing the back streets. Lester and Brenda from Australia.
If you want to know what real Cambodia and real love for fellow beings is, don't miss this special opportunity to stay with Bunyong family! from the moment his smiling driver greeted us at the airport, we knew we made the right decision to visit Cambodia this way. Dinners, kids in the front yard laughing or dancing, local friends to guide us in the best possible ways to view anything in the area....hope to come back soon and longer to this special place. Thank you to all who welcomed us as family and kept a little piece of our hearts, Mr. B....until we meet again XXOO
très bon séjour de Mr Bun et de sa famille, nous ne sommes pas resté assez longtemps pour apprécier.
Partie de foot avec les enfants , un très bon souvenir , très amusant
We feel truly like our home first we had arrived and met mr Bun, James Bun, who has introuced himself with huge smile on his face . Mr Bun is very kind and big heart who has not just open his home to everyone but also giving back to his comunity, helping 12 disadvantaged children to school .
The room was clean with private bathroom, wifi and air conditioning and fresh home cooked food was really tasty .
The two days guided tour with mr Bun was truly unforgettable and unique experiences, the highlight of our trip !
He took us to explore the temples of Angkor wat without a seeing many tourists, feeling special like first explorers !
Highly reccommended if you want to see and experience the real , authentic Camboddia and see Angkor temples without any crowds !
Bun's home was welcoming and warm - it really felt like home! I had so much fun at Bun's home. He helps 12 children from the neighborhood with schooling and I had the opportunity to meet them all and play with them after school. They were a blast! We happily danced in the Cambodian New Year on Bun's lovely patio, enjoyed family dinners and shared stories. Bun was an excellent host -- I only wish I could have stayed longer!!
LOVED STAYING HERE! Unforgettable experience and a wonderful, welcoming host. This was the highlight of my trip and I wish I could have stayed with Bun longer. This is a must-do for anyone interested in learning about what real Cambodian life is like while also having a good time.
The house itself is beautiful and clean, the meals were traditional and tasty, Bun will do your laundry if you need it, and you'll get to meet both locals and other travelers. His house is located close to town, just a short ride to the main area. Bun makes arrangements incredibly easy and will pick you up and drop you off at the airport (or wherever you need to go) and will also schedule activities and tours for you if you're interested. We did a full day guided temple tour with Bun and learned not just about the temples and history, but about ourselves. That may sound cheesy, but Bun spent much of his life as a Buddhist monk (which he later gave up to get married and have a daughter) and shared a bunch of stories, information, and neat life lessons with us. He also shared a lot about Cambodia's history and politics as well as his own life story, which, like everyone living in Cambodia right now, is largely defined by the brutal Genocide in the 70's. Bun has been through so much, but lives his life with contagious joy and a desire to make the world a better place. One of his biggest efforts to do that is to build a school for 100 local kids who live in extreme poverty. The kids live just down the road and Bun provides funding for a set of them to go to school now, with the goal of eventually building his own school to allow even more of them to go to school. Expect to meet some of the kids Bun helps when you stay with Bun. :) We met them as soon as we arrived, as about 10 kids eagerly ran up to us when we pulled up to the house for the first time. They had huge smiles on their faces, were excited to practice their English, and told us they had been practicing a special dance they wanted to perform for us all that night. Their performance was adorable; they got all dressed up and had clearly been practicing for a while. Towards the end of it, they switched the music to funny songs like Gangnam Style and the Macarena and pulled us on "stage" to dance with them. It was so much fun! After the dance, we (Bun, some of his fun local friends, and the guests staying there- a solo traveler from Colorado, my boyfriend and I, and a couple from France) hung out drinking beers and rice wine then went out to the bars in town. Bun's homestay is more than just a place to stay; it's a special experience that really opens your eyes to Cambodian life, inspires you, and lets you experience a lot of things you wouldn't typically be able to as a tourist. To top it off, it's fun! I highly encourage you to stay here and would give this 10 stars if I could. Thanks for the unforgettable and special experience, Bun!
