Grandfather Tomas al Vedado's house

What an absolutely wonderful stay we had! Our hosts, Nonno Tomas, Mario and Regla, made us feel so at home from the minute we arrived- just lovely, kind, welcoming....I can't say enough, I miss them already. They gave us tips on how to get around, what to expect, how to maneuver different situations- very, very helpful. Mario can arrange the trip from/to the airport for you with a trusted private taxi service.
The rooms are spacious, air conditioned, quiet and very comfortable- each has a minibar and safe and plenty of space for hanging/storing your clothes/stuff. The room in which we stayed had a balcony and nice big windows we could open to enjoy the cool evenings. We chose to have breakfast at the house every morning- always delicious and plentiful. The house itself is in a safe, central location-we walked to different parts of Havana every day; when we would get too far from our next objective, we would take a bicitaxi- highly recommend bicitaxis, these guys work so hard for so little so please, overtip! This gracious family went out of their way to make me feel at home. The room I stayed in had french doors that opened to a tiny balacony. Next to the bedroom is a high ceiling sitting room with a much larger balcony, where one can sit and hear the school children across the street singing the national anthem at 8 a.m. The leafy Vedado neighborhood is a study in contrasts--old elegant colonial mansions, next to colonial and art deco homes, many needing restoration---this is the Havana of today. Breakfast was lovely--fresh fruits, eggs, some Cuban creations, the names of which i do not know--but they were delicious and sliced tomatoes and onions.

Thank you all for a lovely stay at your home. You were all very kind to me and especially on my birthday where you surprised me with a birthday cake, flowers and put happy birthday decorations around the breakfast room. Very thoughtful of you all. The family are all very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I enjoyed the delicious breakfasts, sometimes with a little cake which I thoroughly enjoyed! The house is beautiful and a wonderful place to relax. It has a lovely terrace and lounge area for guests, spacious rooms and good facilities. There are a few restaurants nearby but an excellent one on Calle 15, excellent food! Thank you everyone at Casa Tomas! Besos
