My entire stay with Maple-san and Monica-san was truly a heartwarming experience. I stayed in her home for a week, and by the end of it, I genuinely felt sad to leave. I had started to grow attached to both of them. Maple’s house is beautiful, and clean. Maple-san welcomed me, a total stranger, with so much warmth and kindness. I immediately felt at ease. I especially miss our conversations. She’s such a positive, and fun person to talk to. We went to the farmers market together. The ride there was filled with the nice scenery of Kyoto. Maple-san also gave me great recommendations, and when I needed help, she patiently helped me figure things out. She took the time to show me the routes on a map.
I also had so much fun playing with Monica-san when I got home! She’s the cutest dog!
Kyoto has so much beauty and culture to offer, and I want to return again. And when I do, I’d love to stay at Maple’s homestay again. I can’t imagine a more perfect homestay experience. It truly felt like a home away from home and I’ll always be grateful for that. I now have fond memories to look back to. Anyone who wants a warm, personal, and memorable experience in Kyoto should stay at Maple’s homestay! :)

(***** ) Here are the five extra stars they deserve! Because Maple and Monica were fantastic hosts! Both were incredibly friendly, and made me feel at home as soon as I stepped foot into their home. Maple is extremely knowledgeable of the area and of Japan as whole. She can even help guide you as you move on from Kyoto. She also is very knowledgeable on Japanese history and culture, and can answer many questions. Monica is best dog hands down.

The experience of staying and experiencing a slice of modern Japanese life was well worth it.

A Truly Heartwarming 7 day Stay with Maple and Monica!

From the moment I arrived, I felt completely at home thanks to Maple’s incredible hospitality and warmth. She is an exceptional host—thoughtful, kind, and always making sure everything is just right. The space was cozy, clean, and beautifully maintained, offering the perfect balance of comfort and charm.

But the real star of the stay? Monica, Maple’s sweet and gentle dog. She greeted me like an old friend every time I came through the door, and her calm, friendly presence made the place feel even more welcoming. If you’re a dog lover, you’re in for an extra special treat.

Maple went above and beyond in every way—whether it was sharing local tips, checking in to make sure I was comfortable, or simply creating a warm, relaxed atmosphere that made it hard to say goodbye.

This wasn’t just a stay—it felt like I was part of a home. I can’t recommend this homestay enough. If you’re lucky enough to book with Maple and Monica, prepare to leave with a full heart and wonderful memories.

The house was very clean and tidy and had everything I needed.

As for the host, Maple-san, I was positively surprised by how kind she was. Not only did she suggest interesting places in Kyoto to me, she also explained the historical background and helped me make travel plans for the individual days. As a result, I think I managed to visit many different areas and get quite a lot out of my trip. This wouldn't have been possible without her thorough knowledge of Kyoto and her willingness to help.

Amazing homestay !
It was our first experience like this and we are ready to do this again because our stay was just perfect. Maple is Really kind and welcoming, so we were felling directly like at our home. She also helped us a lot to make our organisation to visit Kyoto, it was a Great help. By the way Monica her dog is lovely :)
For the home there is all we needed of comfort and accomodations, and the place is a bit out of the downtown but it was totaly positive to rest after the long days of Touristic visit :)
Also is quiet simple to join the city only 20 or 30 minute by bus and train.

So be sure you can have really good time here !

We spent an amazing week at Maple-san’s home. The location is a bit further out, but it’s so worth the extra travel time. The house is very cozy, light and comfortable, our beds were great to sleep in. We loved hanging out in the dining area, chatting with Maple-san over a pot of tea. We had interesting conversations, and she gave us lots of recommendations on what to see, do or eat around Kyoto. She taught us quite a few Japanese phrases as well as interesting things about the local culture. We even got to try her cooking (and she tried ours!). Her dog, Monika-chan is adorable! For a week we felt like coming home after our days out. An unforgettable experience for sure! どうもありがとうございます、Maple-san!

We miss Maple and Monica already!!!! Such a fun energetic family we really enjoyed getting up early and going for walks in the morning, and Maple went above and beyond teaching us about Japan and Sakura and Japanese phrases. - Lily

I want so come back to Kyoto just to see Maple and Monica chan!! Maple was an amazing host and made us feel apart of her family. She taught me many Japanese phrases and helped me understand the language better. I loved spending time with her going on walks and sharing tea.
