Sundara Mahal is situated at Kalpetta in Wayanad District of Kerala - India. Set in acres of a Progeny Orchard and Garden this heritage bungalow now extends the lifestyle and hospitality as a Kerala Govt approved home stay. Sundara Mahal is an exclusive getaway. It is a century old bungalow, steeped in history and nestled in the woods. Watch as the fog lifts around the plantation, notice the different shades of green that surround the house, bird watch or get lost in a book. Quiet and serene, it is the ideal location for family or friends to unwind and relax. Situated on the national highway, it is easy to locate and close to town with most waterfalls, dams, temples, hiking trails and hills a short drive away. Spacious rooms, modern amenities, home cooked food, hosts –humans, feline and canine- look forward to meeting and spending time with you.
Cuisine is pure home cooked vegetarian fare - a blend of North and South Indian dishes. We cook and serve some of the traditional dishes peculiar to Kerala as well as those specialties of Tamil Brahmans. Jain food is provided on request.
Facilities include large car parks, indoor board games, cricket nets, shuttle badminton, football, air rifles for target shooting, dartboard, big screen TV with DTH, internet, workstation with music and video collection & library. Transport, experienced Guides & Masseurs and Doctors are on call.
Sundara Mahal lives up to its name, in its splendid Garden. There is more to this Garden than the manicured Lawns and abundant greenery that meets the eyes on first sight. It is home to a lot more species that its human occupants. The garden is ideal for relaxing with hammocks, garden chairs and swings strategically sited.
Sundara Mahal has retained its original architectural features, mostly in teak, mahogany, Malabar rosewood, antique furniture and ambiance of a bygone era. Your family will share a gracious life style long forgotten. Through solar panels and energy efficient lighting the carbon footprints our guests leave behind will be minimal.
Guests can enjoy the myriad attractions of Wayand. Trekking at Chembra peak or Brahmagiri hills, speed boating at Banasura Dam, picnics at Meenmutty, Soochipara or Kanthanpara water falls, rafting at Kuruva islands, or examine the New Stone Age pictorial scripts at Eddakkal and savour the wildlife at Tholpetty and Muthanga wildlife sanctuaries. You may also enjoy interactions with the owners on lifestyle, history, culture, cuisine, plantations and crafts in the area.

About the Area
Our home is situated just on the outskirts of Kalpetta town in a serene wooded old plantation. We are just 5 mts. away from Kalpetta new bus stand. The nearest railway station of Calicut is 72 kms. And the nearest airpoirt of Calicut is 100kms. You could also arrive at Bengaluru airport and drive down to Wayanad through Mysore.

Contact the host to check their availability and ask them any questions you have about staying with them. Once the host confirms they’re available for your dates, you can complete your booking.
When do I pay?
Once a host confirms they're available, you can go ahead and pay the 15% booking fee (maximum of 250 $£€ for longer term bookings) using a choice of payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Laser, JCB & PayPal (not available in certain countries). You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile. Our hosts have been advised that if they wish to request advance payment they must make this explicit in their profile. We do not recommend the use of Money gram or Western Union.
When can I share my contact details?
Host and Guest email address, phone number and home address will be exchanged in a confirmation email sent to both immediately after a booking is completed. It's against our policy for Guests and Hosts to exchange direct contact details via our messaging system.
