December 2023
My partner and I had a wonderful time staying with Aki, Tomohiro and their daughter for three nights. Both Aki and Tomohiro were eager to learn about life from Australia and were happy to share their opinions on Japan and gave us a truly unique experience in Nara. We were able to cook and shop together, learning about traditional Japanese dishes special to the area. We were also able to see what life is like for her children following them around at school. By the last night I was already reminiscing on how much I would miss my new family here. Aki and Tomohiro are very kind and welcoming people. I am grateful to have spent time with them. I will forever speak highly of them and my memories I made here.

Had an amazing stay with Aki and her family. They welcomed us in like family. She took us to beautiful lesser known temples and shrines. We had dinner with their family and friends. I caught a fever on my check out day, she left work to bring me medicine and made sure I was ok before leaving. Thank you for the experience.

I really wanted a genuine homestay experience while I was in Japan, and I feel so grateful for finding Aki and her family. On my first night, Aki and her husband Tomo invited over a few of their like-minded friends. We enjoyed a delicious meal that Aki cooked before all going to a local onsen together. The next night I was able to go grocery shopping with Aki, and she showed me how to cook a true Japanese style meal which was so healthy.
Both she and Tomo sparked curious conversations, and we were all eager to learn about each other’s culture. Their daughter Mayu is also a very precious and adorable four-year-old who taught me some fun new games in the evening.
Aki’s home in Kashihara-shi, Nara is close to the metro but also off the beaten path. It’s one of the oldest towns in Japan, and it has many beautiful temples and shrines without any of the tourists. My favorite was this really cool section of town where there was row upon row of old merchant houses in small alleyways. I could have easily spent a few more days in Kashihara-shi exploring. My experience with Aki was exactly what I hoped it would be. Thank you, Aki.
