Close to transport routes to Birmingham, Solihull and Redditch yet perched on the edge of the countryside, an old cottage but extensively modernised, on a quiet cul-de-sac but only 150m from the main road, this accommodation offers the best of both worlds.
I have previously hosted students from both Europe and the Far East (Taiwan, South Korea and Japan) and would like to do this again. I can provide full-board accommodation to have students living as part of the family while improving their English.
Room 1 for long-term let -A double-size, fully-furnished room, recently re-plastered and repainted and carpet cleaned (April 2014), comprising of a single bed, triple wardrobe and large desk in a character house with a modernised interior, fully central heated and double glazed. The room is next door to the main bathroom. ( I use the shower in my en suite but occasionally use the bathroom when I want a bath. There is another toilet and washbasin you could use on the odd occasion I have a bath )
Room 2 - double bedroom for short-term let (unsuitable to live in permanently but very comfortable for a few nights). I use this room for guests from time to time. It can sleep a third person on the foldaway bed but a small extra charge will apply. Normally I will just make up the double bed - please state when booking if you would like the single bed set up (It is not always obvious who is a couple!).
Use of kitchen with seating/dining area with gas range-style cooker with 5 burners and two separate ovens. Dishwasher. Microwave. Fridge freezer.
Use of piano
Utility room with sink and washing machine
High-spec bathroom comprising of:
21 jet chromatography whirlpool bath with bath/shower mixer taps
separate shower enclosure with 9. 8 kw shower, heated towel rail, washbasin and toilet, shaver socket.
A separate toilet with wash basin next to the double room (As the house has three toilets and two showers there should not be a queue for the bathroom in the morning)
Garden with lawned area, flower beds, fruit/vegetable garden, herb beds, pond with water feature, patio table, other garden seating, small barbeque and rotary clothes line.
Garage/shed space for bicycle
Parking by arrangement - please state if you need parking at time of booking . There is parking for 1-2 cars (dependent on size) in front of the garage. You can park here securely overnight but may need to move your vehicle in the morning so we can get our cars out of the garage. There is plenty of extra parking on service roads just round the corner
Good transport links by road and public transport.
Public transport: Near Longbridge railway station (for the Cross City Line including trains to the University/Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Birmingham, and in the other direction to Redditch, bus routes to Bromsgrove, Worcester, Solihull and Birmingham City Centre).
Near Longbridge Town Centre for Bournville College, Sainsbury's, Marks and Spencer, Beefeater, Costa Coffee and other pubs and food outlets.
By car near M42 and M5
Good local shops and easy reach of a choice of supermarkets
Pets: Rabbits in hutches in the garden and birds in a small aviary in the garden room off the lounge. Fishtanks in dining area, lounge and garden room. The rest of the house is pet free.

Can provide some meals/ food if required - additional costs will apply.

My main hobbies are yoga and swimming. I am in late on Thursdays (about 7.30pm) as I do yoga so check in has to be around 5pm or after 7.30pm. On Saturday afternoons, I go swimming. I also attend yoga and swimming on Tuesday mornings when I am able.

As a South African travelling on a very small budget (R24.00/1pound), it was more than adequate! All I needed was a place to sleep, but they made me feel completely welcome and at ease in their home. Bed was comfortable and clean and although the attic room was quite small it was warm and more than sufficient, with a TV, kettle and even a hairdryer and phone charging equipment with adapters (thank goodness)! There was a separate loo just outside the door, with a night light, and a really nice full bathroom on the floor below, which was not once occupied when I needed to shower. It also has a beautiful Spa Bath, unfortunately I did not have time to test that, maybe next time I am in Birmingham! Friendly people, went out of their way for me, for any short stay, I would definitely recommend them!

I came three months in Birmingham to work at the university and to improve my english.
Sally and John happily collected me from the nearest train station when I arrived, I appreciated it well.
The house was clean and exactly as described. Sally is a great chef, I always ate very well and abundantly and shared funny moments during the dinner.

She has a vast amount of knowledge on languages, culture, history. It's impressive.
    I had a lovely stay.

in this home stay I got a very nice room and every facility I needed. I became a part of the family. As my English was not perfect I got plenty opportunities to practice my English. They supported and assisted me in all matters. Thank you very much.
