About the Homestay

We live in the west side of Exeter, St. Thomas in a detached 4 bedroom house with lovely big garden. The family comprises of 3 of us, Mark, Nic and Ned, plus a very friendly springer spaniel called Bill. Mark is a sales engineer who works from home, Nic is a nurse by background, who has recently left the NHS and is working as a Foot Health Practitioner doing domiciliary visits in and around Exeter. Ned is still at school and enjoys eating and staying in his room most of the time , like most teenagers. We are a friendly lively lot and are finding it a little quiet now the 2 older children have moved away now so we would love to rent our spare double room to students on placement in Exeter. As a nurse, I really hope to support you during your placement and would be happy to help with a bit of mentoring and to debrief if needed.
If you stay with us you will have your own double room, with a desk if required. You can use the living room, dining room and kitchen and the garden of course. We have bikes we can lend you during your stay as it really is nice and easy to ride around Exeter, although it is a bit hilly. We'd be happy to show you the best routes to take to get to the Royal Devon hospital or Devon Partnership Trust and some nice leisure rides if you're interested.
Facilities wise, we do have access to some gym equipment such as a rowing machine, weights etc in our garage but I think that to call it a home gym may be a step too far.

About the Area
Our house is located in the west side of the city in a safe area. There are lots of local amenities within walking distance including Aldi, The Range and Sainsbury's. Cowick Barton playing fields are close by and have a basketball hoop, tennis courts and is really nice to walk around. There are frequent buses into the city centre from Cowick Street but if you like charity shopping you will find an abundance of shops on Cowick street itself. There is also a local train station which means it's easy to hop on a train and head to the beach as the line goes from Exmouth to Paignton, stopping at all locations along the way.

Meals
Hosts can offer a complimentary light breakfast at their discretion. All other meals, including a full breakfast, might incur an additional cost, if offered. Meals and any additional payment should be arranged directly with your host.

House Rules
We would request payment in cash or via BACS on arrival to cover a months stay. If you would like to stay for a few months, but plan to go home when not on shift please do contact us to discuss a daily rate.
Now for the Do's and Don'ts:
Do feel free to use all of the communal space in the house and leave it as you found it.
Do recycle and try to be environmentally conscious during your stay.
Do ask it you need to borrow anything, we have most stuff and are happy to share
Do join us for meals if you would like, we often still cook for 5!
Don't feed the dog or let him upstairs/on the sofa. He knows the rules but may try it on.
Don't wear shoes upstairs as we have nice new carpets.
Don't be too noisy after 10pm on week nights as this is a family home and we all need our beauty sleep.
Don't be afraid to have friends over

How do I book?
Contact the host to check their availability and ask them any questions you have about staying with them. Once the host confirms they’re available for your dates, you can complete your booking.
When do I pay?
Once a host confirms they're available, you can go ahead and pay the 15% booking fee (maximum of 250 $£€ for longer term bookings) using a choice of payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Laser, JCB & PayPal (not available in certain countries). You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile. Our hosts have been advised that if they wish to request advance payment they must make this explicit in their profile. We do not recommend the use of Money gram or Western Union.
When can I share my contact details?
Host and Guest email address, phone number and home address will be exchanged in a confirmation email sent to both immediately after a booking is completed. It's against our policy for Guests and Hosts to exchange direct contact details via our messaging system.
