Sue is a former university lecturer who enjoys music and the arts, history, reading, photography, socialising, gardening, theatre and opera. She speaks English and French. Her husband Louis is a lawyer, with similar interests.
Previously, Sue welcomed many guests to her larger home in London but now lives in the very pretty town of Lewes, a historic market town just 7 miles from Brighton and the Sussex Coast, and just over an hour by train from London. The house, near Lewes's famous Castle, is a few minutes' walk from Lewes station – giving easy access to the University of Sussex, the University of Brighton and Plumpton Agricultural College. A local bus will take you to Glyndebourne Opera House, nearby.

House Rules
I provide good accommodation in a friendly environment but I do expect my guests to be independent. I look forward very much to conversing with you of course, but you will find me busy with my own life and work too.
You are welcome to use the kitchen for preparing quick meals in the evenings, as long as you clean up after doing so.
I ask you not to invite strangers into our home but if you would like a relative or friend to visit, this must be agreed with me in advance. When you arrive, you will find in your room helpful printed guidelines about living in the house and in the town. You may of course ask me any questions in advance or while you are here.
I hope you will love Lewes, and also your accommodation, which is well-placed to make the most of this fascinating area.

I had a great time staying at Susan's house!
She is a wonderful host and takes care of every of your needs.
If you are looking for the real England experience, South Woodford is the place to be.
Although it is located in Zone 4, you have a good connection to the Central Line and the City Centre is reached in less than 30mins.Thanks again for the great homestay Susan, I had a great time!

Sue and her family are fantastic, the people and the house are really welcoming.
I have lived with them for almost three months and, thanks to Sue, I have enjoyed london, in the best way. I think that if you don't find a good accomodation in london It is impossible to feel well in a foreign place. I choose the best.
Her house is a little bit far but it's well worth it.October 2013
Sue and Steve were wonderful hosts!
The thing I loved the most about staying with the Richards family was the fact that they really do enjoying hosting people and getting to know them. Sue gave us plenty of recommendations on what to see/do while in London. They are very approachable and ready to answer any questions or address concerns. Sue did our laundry regularly and offered us tea :)
I really did like the location of the house. South Woodford is a great area. There is plenty to do around the neighborhood, and it was nice to hang out in an area of locals and be one of the only tourists!
The tube station is about a 10-minute walk away, and the central line will take you straight into central London in less than 1/2 hour. Although a tube ride that long is a bit expensive during peak hours, it is totally worth it considering the value of your homestay.
I would highly recommend Sue and Steve! I plan on staying with them again someday.October 2013
This guest awarded the host 4.9 hearts but didn’t leave any comments.

I had a great time at Susans house.
I´m really looking forward to visit them again.Everyone of the family is really nice and helpful, also available any time. I felt free to use the kitchen and it was always a welcoming and warm atmosphere when I met Sue or some of the family members. After a 4 weeks stay I have to pretend that I actually gonna miss them.
The rooms are soo lovely decorated and clean that you will feel like coming home from the first day on. Susan washes your cloths and cleans the dishes, so its even more luxury than at home ;)
It depends on where you want to go, but it will take you around 20 minutes with the central line to get to the city center and additional 10 minutes to walk to the tube station. I was glad to have choosen a host a bit outlying, because it is a lovely neighbourhood with lots of shopping possibilities and I felt really save there.
I would honestly recommend it to everyone to stay with Susan and her family, whenever visiting London!
