Why I Chose to Host with Homestay.com

Csilla is a Physics teacher in California who has been a host with Homestay.com since September 2016. She chose to host guests in her home so that she could supplement income when she isn't teaching in the summer. Csilla has hosted many guests from 13 different countries visiting California on holiday and professionals on business. Her location close to UCI makes her a particularly good option for students too. When you stay with Csilla in Orange County, you are will experience all that southern California has to offer with the comforts of home. (And her two Siberian huskies are a bonus!)

What made you choose Homestay.com?

I came by Homestay.com by accident. I really wanted to be able to host people in my home--sort of like a bed and breakfast on my own terms. I had thought about hosting on Airbnb, but those sites take so much of the profit, and, more importantly, they take away the ability for the host to decide if the guests will be a good fit in our home. Because of this, I am only listed on Homestay.com and no other sites.

Each summer I have to teach summer school, as teachers in America do not get paid in the summer for their work during the school year (mid-August to early June). Part of the reason why I started this last year was I did not want to work in the summer. Last summer I was able to offset having to work in the summer by hosting. It was a win-win! I am hoping to do the same this summer.

What are some of your favorite moments from being a host?

We had the pleasure to host actors from Canada last summer who work on the Game of Thrones show. We fell in love with them and became fast friends! Just this last week we had Tahani in our home who is a make up artist who did our make up.

What would you tell anyone who is considering signing up as a host?

You meet such interesting people while also having control over who you are willing to let into your home. As long as you are outgoing open to meeting new people, being a host can be very rewarding both financially as well as emotionally.
