About the Homestay
We are Noi & Greg Ledder, blessed to be living in the amazing Isaan region of Thailand and looking forward to sharing the delights of this wonderful area with our visitors.
Our home, a detached Bungalow style house, is also a popular restaurant called ‘Noi’s Kitchen’ serving Thai & English food and is situated in a beautiful rural location approximately mid-way between the towns of ‘Nong Bua Lam Phu’ and ‘Non Sang,’ on the outskirts of a small village called ‘Phu Si Tong.’
You will be staying in our beautiful Thai Style wooden pool house (please see photo's near the end of the Photo Gallery). It is comfortable for two with room for a childs bed if required. It is very private and romantic, located just a 150 meters away and within eyesight of our home. It has its own shower / toilet block just a few meters away which is for your exclusive use, and wonderful views of the surrounding countryside! The walk-around veranda is the ideal place to take in the amazing sunsets!
We realise it can be a little daunting arriving in a foreign country and as the nearest Airports to us (Udon Thani or Khon Kaen) are both approximately 90kms from our home, the last thing you want after a long flight is to be relying on buses or Taxi's so we offer the option of a personal collection service. Once you have a confirmed date and time of arrival we can come and meet you personally at the Airport and bring you to our home and return you to the airport when it is time for you to leave us. The service is FREE when you book for 14 nights or longer - otherwise there is a charge of 2000 thb for this service which includes collection from and return to the airport.
A little about us…
Noi is a self-taught Chef, very passionate about her work and very skilled in the art of creating extremely tasty meals! (See photo gallery for Menu's).
She is also a keen gardener, growing many fruits, vegetables and herbs which she uses in her cooking. And ever since we went on a trip to a Sacha Inchi tea plantation a couple of years ago she's been growing her own Sacha Inchi tea - very tasty and very healthy!
I’m a veteran Scroll saw artist of over 20 years and love to create unique pieces in wood using my trusty old scroll saw. I'm so lucky that there are some truly beautiful woods to work with in Thailand! If you're into arts & crafts I can teach you (free of charge) how to make beautiful wooden items using only basic scroll saw techniques. See the photo gallery for some examples of my work.
I'm also a sometime musician - love music of most kinds, especially ‘90’s country - oh, and the infectious Isaan music!
Noi & I both love to see the sights in Thailand and are more than happy to take you on guided tours (an English-Thai speaking guide is always an advantage!). Depending on where you wish to go, some tours may involve overnight stays due to the distances involved.
This is an optional service and the cost would be dependent on distance, time involved and fuel cost.
If you prefer to just take off on your own we can take you to one of the nearest towns where you can explore at your leisure, catch a bus to go sightseeing etc.
Our restaurant customers come from all walks of life - teachers, local government, local police and medical staff as well as local villagers and passers by - plus the odd 'Falang' (foreigner) and as Isaan people are very friendly and outgoing there is plenty of opportunity to interact with local people right on your doorstep! It's highly probable that you will get invited to see the local schools or to a local function / festival of some kind - there's always something going on!
Of course, having a restaurant means that cleanliness and hygiene are of great importance so you can rest assured that we keep everything clean!
Isaan is the largest region of Thailand - about the same size as England & Wales combined and is an amazing place, having it’s own unique flavour!
It has it’s own variant of the Thai language, it’s own traditions and it’s own music - and the Isaan people are renowned for being among the friendliest in Thailand.
The area has so much to offer for those who shy away from the usual tourist traps. The pace here is so much more relaxed but there is so much to see and do!
This is rural Thailand so the reality is that the infrastructure is not always as good as in the towns. On the odd occasion there may be short power outages which occur mainly during storms and heavy rain.
It can be very hot here too - up to 40 degrees C during the hot season, the hottest months being April & May so sun protection is a must!
Rural Isaan isn’t exactly bristling with nightlife - which is exactly why many visitors come here but there are some wonderful night markets in the cities of Udon Thani, Khon Kaen and Chiang Khan (on the banks of the mighty Mekong river and particularly charming!) that sell beautiful hand made items, a vast assortment of mouth watering raditional food stalls, small restaurants and bars where you can have a meal and a beer while listening to street musicians.
There are local village markets too and depending on the time of year there may be a major traditional festival or two to see - always a wonderful spectacle! Isaan people love nothing more than to share their culture and traditions and it is not uncommon for complete strangers to be invited to a local Wedding which is a very pleasant experience!
There are many national Parks, historic sites & monuments, spectacular temples, stunning mountain scenery, new foods to try - so much to tell you about that I don't even know where to start!
One thing for sure though - you are going to LOVE Isaan!
Your stay includes a light breakfast every morning. Both the Thai & English Menu's in Noi's restaurant are extremely reasonably priced - the most expensive meal is a Beef steak with French fries and side salad for just 159 thb - or the equivalent of less the 4.00 GBP! So you can enjoy great food here every day if you choose to and it won't break the bank.
**PLEASE NOTE: Payment for your stay must be paid in full by bank transfer or Paypal no later than two weeks before your arrival. Any extra's such as extra meals, drinks, guided tours etc to be paid for on the day.
Also important is to please ensure that you have premium level travel insurance because in the event of medical problems medical care can be expensive in Thailand.**
Any questions just ask!
Thank you for your time,
Greg & Noi
