About the Homestay
Hello. Thanks for looking at my ad. This is my childhood house, I have lived here all my life. The neighborhood is residential, quiet and safe -- a section of northeast LA close to Alhambra, Monterey Park, South Pasadena, Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley. Main St Alhambra is 3 miles away, Downtown LA (DTLA) is 7 miles away, and Old Town Pasadena is 7 miles away.
I am a newlywed, my wife is Kumissay, from the country of Kazakhstan. And no, she was not one of my guests lol. We live with my two children -- 19-y.o. daughter full-time & 14-y.o. son half-time (one week at a time, every other week) so he may or may not be here when you are here. I think our house is not like so many others -- it is a home, some times messy and sometimes super clean (thanks Kumissay), most of the time average and always comfortable.
LOOK => Meals are included and we would want you to have dinner with us every day that you choose. Of course you can eat out but meals are included in our offering price. Dinner alone would probably cost you $25/person/day without drinks. And you are welcome to share your cooking with us any time. Please note that I take my son to school in the morning, so you are welcome to make your own breakfast or wait until I return, around 8 am. I enjoy cooking and many people say I am a good cook. If you stay here for one month, it is unlikely you will eat the same dinner twice unless you ask for it!
I am pretty sure you would enjoy staying here. We are nice people, down-to-earth, kind/caring/loving, easy-going and flexible. I know lots about Los Angeles and Southern California and would be happy to help you choose places to go to and even go with you sometimes and if you like.
1) I can usually get discount admissions to most attractions, e.g., Universal Studios, Magic Mountain, and the Long Beach Aquarium.
2) Los Angeles is a shopper's paradise! You can order things from Amazon and have them shipped to my house before your arrival.
3) Are you traveling with children? Children under 10 are free to stay with you in your room. Children 13 and over (plus additional adults) are only $10/day additional. There is a cool park only 1 block away.
4) I am a credentialed teacher and a certified ESL teacher. I also offer "teaching homestays" with 2-3 hours of English-language instruction daily and more field trips than you can imagine. :)
So here's the bedroom situation -- the available bedroom is our "master" bedroom. It has: a queen bed; a door to the back yard; 3 dresser drawers and 2 nightstand drawers available; half a closet; a table and chair.
There are two bathrooms. There is a large refrigerator that is almost always full to overflowing. There is a washer and drier that you can use. Wireless Internet, smart tv's, what else?
Some of our previous guests were so happy here that they returned again this year :) One guest has stayed with us 3 times so far. I remain in contact with most of our guests long after they leave our house. My wife Kumissay has her own friendships with past guests. I'm pretty sure you will feel the same. You know what they say about California? "You can check out any time you want but you can never leave." lol.
Los Angeles is a shopper's paradise, there is LOTS of competition. Here are some facts about Los Angeles: Los Angeles has almost 5,000 square miles of area (12,000 sq km). The metropolitan area is almost 34,000 sq miles (88,000 sq km) - the largest metropolitan area in the United States. Given a city of this size, public transportation is not that great and the citizens of LA have not embraced it. In any case, there are buses, trains and Uber. Within this large area are hundreds of shopping centers. Some are more popular or more famous but they all tend to have the same brand-name stores regardless. "Outlets" are shopping centers where the brand-name stores offer their merchandise for lower prices than at the regular shopping malls.
I am a very respectful person and I do not want to impose myself on you or invade your privacy in any way. However, I fully understand that I am a representative of my country, the same as you, and I want your experience here to be outstanding! I would be happy to collaborate with you in any way I can to make your visit pleasant and memorable.
1. If you are an American citizen and you believe the Big Lie, please stay somewhere else.
2. If you are an American citizen and you are unvaccinated against coronavirus, please do NOT come to California.
3. If you are an international visitor, please either be vaccinated or be prepred to get vaccinated immediately upon arrival. Thank you.

About the Area
El Sereno is a quiet neighborhood in the northeast section of Los Angeles. Our house is across the street from the city of Alhambra and near to the cities of Monterey Park, South Pasadena and Pasadena. If you have children, there is a small park just one block away. Public transportation is about 3/4 mile away but most people nowadays take Uber or Lyft. You could take a walk at night and be safe.
Here are some facts about Los Angeles. Los Angeles has almost 5,000 square miles of area (12,000 sq km). The metropolitan area is almost 34,000 sq miles (88,000 sq km) - the largest metropolitan area in the United States. Within this large area are hundreds of shopping centers. Some are more popular or more famous but they all tend to have the same brand-name stores regardless. "Outlets" are shopping centers where the brand-name stores offer their merchandise for lower prices than at the regular shopping malls. There are of course many, many attractions ranging from amusement parks to museums to beaches, mountains, etc.

This guest awarded the host 4 hearts but didn’t leave any comments.
I had a wonderful time at this house. He was a good cook, I never got tired of his cooking. He is very kind and friendly.
If you choose this house, you will have the best experience!
I was able to spend a wonderful time in Los Angeles thanks to him. Delicious food was one of the pleasure. If you stay in his house, you can make the best memories!
That was our first experience of staying in American family through the homestay website. Living in the family, we got many opportunities of communicating with local people. It is a great experience of practicing English skills and getting acquainted with local culture and traditions.
Michael is very hostile, attentive and willing to help at any affair.
The house is located in a pretty quiet neighborhood not far from the Universal Studious, Hollywood site, Santa Monica beach and promenade area. Free car parking is available just in front of the house as well.
Many thanks to Michael for his warm welcome.
wonderfull! Michael is very friendly, we spent a great time at his home!
It was lovely to stay there! He is indeed a good cook, a good guide and a perfect host. The first night he told us we probably would stay longer, and we did.
And like he said, its a house not a hotel, but everything you need is there.
We're glad we choose this place to stay!
