Please note that we are looking for someone that will use kitchen for light cooking. We prefer guests to use the oven and not to fry food everyday. I live near the city, sea and parks in the Suburb of Artane in Dublin 5. I live with my husband and three children. They are 7, 6 and 3 years old. It is a friendly, lively house. Although it can get noisy at times, especially when the kids come home from school. They usually go to bed about 8pm and the house is quiet again. We go to bed early also, about 9pm. If you are looking for a very quiet house then maybe this is not the house for you . However If you enjoy a lively busy house where you will get a big welcome and made feel at home then this is the house for you. Our house has recently been refurbished and is modern and spacious. There are 3 bedrooms in total, 1 bathrooms and a downstairs toilet, large kitchen come dining room, sitting room and a play room. It is a 5 min walk to Malahide Road where there are many bus routes. Both myself and my husband are well travelled and love learning about different cultures. We promise a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. We prefer to host females. Please note that the price does not include an evening meal. We are only seeking people who will do ‘light’ cooking, preferably use the oven and not fry food everyday. Seeking people who are clean and tidy in the kitchen & bathroom.

Well, I wouldn't know how to value them very well. In principle, they seemed like a lovely family and left me my space. Then with the days I saw that they entered my room and they changed my bag, they took my sheets, well this was not bad, but they didn't tell me anything that they would enter my room, I thought that was my job. One day I wanted to put a washing machine, and they told me that that day I could not put it on, to put it the next day, without any explanation, and then they told me to go to a laundry room, they started to change things for me, such as the garlic for cooking that I kept In the cupboard, I found it stored in a bag when I returned one day from work. But the days I found it in the patio, outside the kitchen, they took it outside I imagine because it bothered them. I thought it bothered them, so I bought another type of garlic powder. I only cooked at night, since I work all day. And suddenly, every day, they tell me that maybe an Australian cousin is coming to live at home, so I would have to start looking for something else. I got it and started looking for it, because apart from the fact that I didn't believe much what they told me, I was no longer comfortable. Well, not a week has passed since they told me this, that the hostess sat with me and told me that they didn't want me to continue with them because it bothered them so much that I cooked with onions, that the smell bothered them a lot, and several other nonsense. So, really, I didn't understand anything. The time I have been I have been a pretty good guest, clean, and I have not given any problems. I would only say that if you are not willing to share any space in your house with a guest, I think you should not rent a room in your house, nothing more.

    Hi Isabel
Many thanks for your review. I think you are a lovely girl but your review is a little petty. I also think your English is limited which made it very difficult to engage with you as you did not understand most of the things I wrote in my profile or told you once you arrived.
    1. Entering a guests room. This is my home, it is not a private rental of the whole house. You are renting a room. We enter a guests bedroom to change sheets and to change bins, hoover etc. You will find this is the case with most homestays.
    2. Using the washing machine: It says in my profile that we allow guests to use the washing machine once per week on Saturdays. I also advised in our private messages that you could use the washing machine on Saturdays and when you arrived I also made that clear. You asked to use the machine when my husband was in the middle of using it so he told you to come back later. I think you did your washing the following day. I don't see any problem with this. Each time after this, you washed on a Saturday and the machine was free each time (And you never once asked if we were using the machine, you just put your clothes in and washed!) I'm not sure exactly what your problem was what the machine? Maybe because is wasn't free at the exact time you wanted to use it?
    3. Garlic. I was very clear with you before I accepted you that we were very sensitive to smells, especially onions and garlic. Yes, I did put your garlic in a sealed bag as it was very strong and pungent and the cupboard was shared and the odor was so strong. I don't think there is anything wrong with this? I didn't make a big deal out of it, I just put it in a zip locked bag. Before I accepted you I told you we were very sensitive to garlic and onion.
    4. Cooking after 9pm: I have no problem with guests cooking in the evening or late at night. Again, you cooked onions and garlic EVERY night. Sometimes you boiled onions for hours to make soup! I have a severe allergy to onions but usually I can keep my allergy under control once they are cooked and the extractor fan is on and the window open. The smell of onions was constantly in my house. Because you didn't open a window or use the extractor fan, the smell would permeate the whole house and my eyes would run for hours. Everything in my house was stinking of onions each day, our clothes, our hair etc. This was the only problem I had with you. When I realised that you would fry onions every single night I approached you in a very gentle manner and told you that I couldn't continue with the situation as my allergies were severe and it was making me miserable. You shrugged your shoulders and in a cheeky manner you told me 'yes, this is onions'. You then told me that you could not stop cooking onions as you had a lot of allergies so you needed to cook them. I told you that we can work it out. We agreed to try using the extractor fan and opening the windows when you cooked onions. I also asked you if you could clean the cooker after you use it as you left it full of grease after cooking. You told me that I did not tell you that you had to clean it after you or show you how to clean the cooker. I think as a 31 year old you should know this.
My Australian cousin: I don't see what your problem is here exactly. You booked from 4th October to 5th November. When you asked if it would be ok to stay longer I advised that my cousin was coming home on 20th Dec and I would need the room then, but I was happy to host you until then. So what is the problem?
We are very friendly and welcoming people as you will see from the reviews other guests have written. However, you did not engage in any conversation with us or our children. Your idea of clean and my idea of clean were not the same unfortunately. We like our house to smell nice, we keep our kitchen and bathroom impeccably clean and we expect of guest to do the same. Unfortunately, you were not a good fit for our house. I hope you find a homestay that is suitable for you and I wish you all the best with your job in Ireland.

Clodagh and her family are so so lovely and friendly. Always there if you need something and so easygoing! You will for sure feel at home. If I go back to Dublin one day I will definitely book my bedroom at Clodagh’s. I spent two months at their house and It was such a great experience.
The kids are very nice and funny, they are a bit noisy but they’re normal kids who play and fight together.
The bedroom is lovely with a double bed and the house is very close to bus stops and there are a Lidl and Tesco 10 minutes walking from home.
    I 100% recommend it!!

I absolutely loved my time with Clodagh and her family! I don't think I would have survived my first few weeks in Dublin without them. Clodagh and Larry were so helpful in every way. From looking for jobs, to figuring out the bus system, to just being a supportive voice. They went above and beyond the call of duty to help with anything and everything. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for accommodations in Dublin. The home is very tidy and is in a nice location to get to City Center easily.

Overall, I can say that I had a fantastic stay at Clodahg´s home. Her family is really nice and they made me feel at home since the first moment I steped into the house. They were always willing to help. They gave me advise about buses, places in the city, supermarkets, etc. There are three small children in the house, so it can be said that it is not a very “quiet” house, but the kids won´t bother you if you need some privacy and you always feel welcome to spend time with the family in the common areas in case you want to have some company.
The location of the house is really good. There is a bus stop 5 minutes walking from the house which has three or four different lines of buses that can take you to Dublin city centre in 15 minutes. There is a Tesco and Lidl 5-10 minutes walking from the house. It is a safe area where you can walk around the neighbourhood without any problem.

What an amazing homestay experience that I had with Clodagh's lovely family. They were very helpful and I enjoyed talking with them. I'm not good at English but they tried to understand what I said. Very friendly people and lovely house. I highly recommend Clodagh as they will definitely give you a great experience.
